At the Wat Phu, three levels of buildings climb from the plain to the plateau and up to a mountain where a sacred spring used to bathe Hindu Gods. A gentle breeze blows on the grass and on the headcloth of a pilgrim who passes by a lotus flower—a carved relic of the bygone kingdoms.
