Malay children are trained to fast before it becomes a religious obligation. They are proud to do so but with little fat reserves to spare and the subjective slowness of time of childhood, fasting is not easy. A pelita (a small kerosene lamp) on the right reminds one of the festivities at night that makes Ramadhan a very special month, even for children.
