PILGRIMAGE TO SAKENAN I, 1993
56 x 76 cm
Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond G. Viault

Crowds of pilgrims come and go in jukung boats or, at low tide, wade back to the mainland. Wearing kebaya blouses and a ceremonial sashes, some carrying a few incense sticks, women lift their sarongs out of reach of the water. When calmer days return to Sakenan, boys fly kites from their boats, and, at night, marine turtles climb on the beaches to lay their eggs. |
